Six new Cambodian IDRC-SEARCA scholars attended the semestral orientation meeting for new scholars on 5 July 2013 at the SEARCA OD Conference Room. The IDRC-SEARCA Southeast Asian Upland Agriculture Fellowship Project awards MS scholarships to nationals of Lao PDR, Cambodia, and Vietnam whose researches are focused on agriculture and food security in the uplands.

At the orientation program, Dr. Editha C. Cedicol, Program Head of Graduate Scholarship Department, briefed the scholars about SEARCA and IDRC project.  She reminded the scholars that their theses researches should focus on topics relevant and beneficial to the upland communities of Cambodia. She presented the mandates of SEARCA and reported the project accomplishments as of the moment. The scholars were oriented on the management policies and guidelines of the IDRC-SEARCA graduate scholarships. An open forum was facilitated by Dr. Cedicol to entertain further questions regarding scholarship administration.

Chheun Sreyneang, one of the scholars, said that after she graduates, she wants to share the additional knowledge acquired to help her country. Ung Putheany, on the other hand, said that he plans to teach in a university in Cambodia to apply what he learned. (Jachin Jane O. Aberilla)
