1st batch of awardees chosen for IDRC-SEARCA upland scholarships

30 Oct 2012 - Out of the 31 scholarship applicants from Cambodia, Lao PDR and Vietnam, 14 hopefuls have passed and will be awarded Master’s degree scholarships with courses and theses related to agriculture and food security in the in the uplands of Southeast Asia. 4 more are being considered and will also be awarded, which totals the 1st batch to 18 scholars.

The selection committee, headed by Dr. Editha C. Cedicol, Program Head of the Graduate Scholarship Department at the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA), wishes the best for the new scholars. “I am hopeful that they use the knowledge they will gained from their graduate studies to help address upland agriculture and food security issues in their respective countries,” says Dr. Cedicol.

The awardees, 11 Vietnamese, 5 Cambodians, and 2 Laotians, will be entered into their respective study posts in the Philippines and Thailand this coming November 2012 (for 2nd semester 2012-2013), and June 2013 (for 1st semester 2013-2014).
